Chances are you protect your iPhone with a case. Probably your MacBook too. But what about your MagSafe power adapter?

It’s safe to say that the little white power brick that comes with Apple laptops isn’t the best design. In fact, it’s badly flawed — the cables are subject to fraying. It’s been a problem for a long time: Apple has settled lawsuits, posted long support documents and currently offers a free replacement program.

What to do? Leon Spencer, an inventor from Atlanta, Georgia, has the answer. Put your power adapter in a special protective case.

Spencer’s MeezyCube is a protective case for MacBook chargers. It prevents fraying, protects the power brick from dirt and scratches, and keeps it cool while in use.

The MeezyCube solves the biggest problem with Apple’s design: the pop-up wings for wrapping the cord. The wings actually increase tension on the cord as it comes out of the power brick. But the MeezyCube has a soft plastic trumpet that protects the base of the cord. The cord can then be wrapped around the raised edges of the MeezyCube in a way that doesn’t put it under stress.

The raised corners also prevent overheating. They allow the power adapter stand upright, letting air flow around it and keeping it cool.

MeezyCube is made from six hard plastic pieces that come in a wide assortment of colors, making the case highly customizable. Colors can be mixed and matched in support of schools, sports teams and businesses.

That’s a lot cheaper than a replacement MagSafe power adapter, which starts at $80 (at least in part because Apple doesn’t license the patented magnetic clasp to other companies, so it’s impossible to pick up a cheapie from a third party).
