SAMSUNG AND APPLE, whose torrid love-hate relationship with each other seems to have softened in recent months as they focus on suing the pants off each other in one country at a time, might be working together on the iPhone 6.
After events last year when Samsung was thrown out of the relationship and sent off to live in a Travel Tavern by Apple, which then shacked up with SK Hynix and Micron to provide its chips, it now seems that a reconcilliation might be in the offing.
As ever with rebound affairs, the cracks have started to show and when Apple requested higher production rates from its new partners, they showed reluctance due to the size of the package Apple was offering.
Now it seems that, according to Taiwanese news website Digitimes, Apple has been seeing its old frenemy in reconciliation talks to rekindle the old familiar love affair and ensure that Apple has enough RAM chips for the launch of its new baby, the iPhone 6, believed to be sporting 1GB.
Sometimes, they say, the second time is even more special than the first time around, though it is unknown if this arrangement will see Samsung fully welcomed back to the fold. Before all its belongings were thrown out the window last year, it had been producing NAND flash chips, batteries, mobile RAM and application processors, so such a reconciliation of the starcrossed lovers can only be a good thing.
Our advice is to just take it one component at a time and see how it goes. Perhaps one day we'll finally see these two technology giants tie the knot for co-branding, but probably not.
