HTC's new Windows Phone handset, the One W8, is hotly
tipped to launch in New York today - but photos and specs have already
leaked online.
HTC's big launch in New York this evening will indeed focus on a brand new Windows Phone handset, which gloriously appears to be an HTC One M8 with Microsoft's OS in place of Android. Full details on the smartphone, leaked previously as the HTC One W8, have emerged online just a few hours before the big launch kick off. And so far it's looking pretty damn sweet, rocking full Windows Phone 8.1 plus some solid specs.
HTC fans might get deja vu with a quick glimpse of the new Windows Phone handset's specs list.
The One W8's 5-inch Super LCD3 screen packs a Full HD resolution, giving a dense 441 pixels-per-inch for sharp movie playback. And movies should sound ear-poppingly good thanks to the iconic dual BoomSound speakers above and below the display.
Packed away inside the One W8 is a quad-core 2.3GHz SnapDragon 801 processor plus 2GB of RAM, and the 32GB of storage is expandable via microSD, giving you shedloads of space for all your apps, photos and videos. Here's hoping the 2600mAh battery can give us well over a day of life, just like the original HTC One M8.
And if you aren't a huge fan of the One M8's UltraPixel camera, which drops megapixels to take better low light shots, then you might want to click away now. The new HTC Windows Phone handset packs another UltraPixel snapper, plus a 5-megapixel front-facing lens for selfies.
And the new phone will also support HTC's Dot View case, so you can check your notifications even when it's all wrapped up.
We can't wait to see a non-Nokia Windows Phone emerge, and with full Windows Phone 8.1 on board, the HTC One W8 will boast all of the big features from Microsoft, including the lovely Cortana. Would you be swayed by a Windows Phone version of the One M8? Let us know in the comments below.
