It's
great to get a new computer, but it takes hours to actually get the
thing set up so you can use it. If you're a developer, Lapwing Laps has a
guide to automate the whole process, including setting up special
default settings.
The bulk of the guide uses Homebrew to snag software, but from there it also walks you through restoring configurations from other computers, and includes a handy script to customize your Mac so it works a little better. Obviously you'll need to go through a set up these scripts to suit your needs, but it's a good starting point if you want to make setting up a new Mac a little easier.
